about
I wrote this song in February of 2022, at a time when I was still thawing out from the desolation of a worldwide pandemic. With few exceptions, I had seen no one but my bandmates and family for nearly two years. I was hardly eating and barely walking, and all my students had been moved online.
My core and leg muscles began to atrophy, and so did my mind. I was stuck in the most hedonistic state of apathy I'd experienced since the first time my muscle disorder reared its head in late 2011 (for more on that, listen to our song "Icarus" from the Reverie EP.)
It turns out I had to come face to face with the worst version of myself to answer the question of who I wanted to be - and to see first hand where I didn't want to end up. It was in this state that I met someone who ended up being the love of my life.
When we began getting to know each other, I was working through my deepest delusions, fears, and flaws. If things hadn't gotten so bad, I'm not sure we would have connected on the same level as quickly as we did. Or at all. Funny how it works out.
"I fell, so I'd fall in love with you."
lyrics
LYRICS:
And it didn't even show this time
I was on my own like I wanted to be
Hardly ever know what’s right for me
It’s a little bit of running low
I was living life on my knees
You could have been anyone to me
It’s a little bit of running low, it’s a little bit of falling out
It’s a little bit of “I don’t know what anything’s about” and
It’s a little bit of holding on, it’s a little bit of knowing something’s wrong with me
Drinking in the entropy
Everyone I know is out of reach
Something in the air that keeps us apart
And it didn’t take a lot of time
Face to face with what I’d be
If I let the lights go out at home
It’s a little bit of running low, it’s a little bit of falling out
It’s a little bit of “I don’t know what anything’s about” and
It’s a little bit of holding on, it’s a little bit of knowing something’s wrong
I fell, so I’d fall
I fell, so I’d fall
I fell, so I’d fall in love with you

Cooper is the real deal - he sings, writes, and plays everything. His tunes are a perfect mix - the charm of pop and the spirit of the underground. One of my favourite songwriters ever. Delving
Bart Budwig sings about the human condition - from every angle he can get to - and makes you dance and cry along the way. ABOTAT is his mangum opus. You won't be disappointed. Delving
Beautiful melodies, experimental soundscapes, all wrapped up with an incredible voice and some finely-honed lyricism. Clara & Co. really achieved something original here. A hidden gem, this record. Delving
